The previous EON Mitte composting plant at Kirchhain, Stausebach was converted into a biogas plant between 2012 and 2014.

The composting plant had a processing capacity of 8.000 Mg/a of separately collected biowaste and green waste.

The plant has been converted into a waste fermentation plant with a total capacity of 30.000 Mg/a of biowaste and green waste. Furthermore, it was planned to build a new fermentation plant for 15,000 Mg/a of NAWARO. The biogas produced from both plant area´s had to be treated and fed into the natural Gas network of EON Mitte.
